Civil Engineer and current Oklahoma State Senator Jack Stewart of District 18 is running for reelection.
Senator Stewart states, “I am excited to run again to continue to serve the people of our great district. Over the last four years, I am most proud of delivering policy solutions on the issue that Oklahomans care most about: affordability. I led on the law that enables counties to go to a second bidder if the first bidder cannot or will not perform. This means taxpayers will no longer be on the hook financially, experience delayed construction projects, or endure painstaking traffic because of disputes between local government and contractors. Local governments and the taxpayer can seek out solutions and other bidders without having to shut down the project.”
Stewart pointed to his architect inspection fee bill, another bill he led on that also became law, and that tackles affordability. The senator’s bill increased the minimum cost of construction projects that mandates an architect inspection. Increasing the minimum cost is significant for all parts of governmental building because it means that many more construction projects will be able to save money and not need to pay architect fees on smaller buildings nor on nonstructural remodels.
Senator Stewart will continue to focus on affordability and being a champion for the taxpayer should he be reelected. The senator looks to revise laws that aide the taxpayer, municipalities, and counties.
Senator Stewart completed over three terms as Canadian County Commissioner, and was first elected in June 2022 for State Senate District 18. Jack received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University before joining the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, where he worked for 31 years. After a long career working for the state of Oklahoma, Jack took his talents to the private sector, working as a transportation unit manager for Carter and Burgess Engineering Company. Jack and his wife Jan have been married for more than four decades; raising three daughters, all of whom have pursued careers in education, and have four grandchildren.
