Canadian County Commissioner, Republican Jack Stewart to Run for New State Senate District 18

Jack Stewart, who is currently finishing his third term as Canadian County Commissioner for District 3, has announced today that he will be seeking the Republican nomination for the newly created Oklahoma State Senate District 18. Jack has dedicated more than a decade of his life serving the people of Canadian County as Commissioner – overseeing the design, construction, and maintenance of over 300 road miles in his local community. After much prayer and discussion with leaders in the community, Jack is committed to serve his neighbors in a new way – defending constitutional freedoms and expanding economic opportunities for the region at the Oklahoma State Capitol.

Jack received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University before joining the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, where he worked for 31 years. Jack then took his talents to the private sector, working as a transportation unit manager for Carter and Burgess Engineering Company, subsequently Jacobs Engineering. He also served on the Yukon Traffic Commission before serving as Canadian County Commissioner.

Jack and his wife Jan have been married for more than four decades; raising three daughters, all of whom have pursued a career in education. Jack loves his community and his neighbors in Yukon and Bethany, recently stating, “After serious consideration, I have decided to pursue a unique opportunity to serve the people of Yukon, Bethany and West OKC at the Oklahoma State Capitol. We have many talented professionals in our legislature, but I am excited to bring my unique skillset in Civil Engineering to assist in comprehensive planning and prioritization of strengthening roads and infrastructure in our local community and across our state. While my first duty as a state senator will be to defend the God-given liberties of my fellow Oklahomans, my next priority will be to help develop the foundational infrastructure in which local businesses and workers can thrive.”

Jack Stewart’s experience includes chairing the Canadian County Long-Term Disaster Recovery Committee, having served as President of the Oklahoma Traffic Engineers Association, serving on the board of the Central Oklahoma Water Resources Authority, being an active board member of the Yukon Veterans Museum, as well as serving several other community organizations, including Canadian County's representative on the Central Oklahoma Work Force Innovation Board.
